Working with the Team
via Zoom
At the Family Institute of Berkeley, we have the opportunity to work with our team of clinicians. We are a teaching program and part of that program is our "one way mirror" work, where traditionally, a client, couple or family would be working with one therapist, and then there would be a team behind the one way mirror. The team might call in with suggestions, the team leader might come into the session and talk with the couple, the therapist might have an earpiece in and the team gives them suggestions during the session, or there might be a reflecting team, where the team goes into the room and the family and therapist observe the team discussing the session. The modern version of the "one way mirror" is through doing the sessions on Zoom, where the team has their cameras off, and the therapist and family work together, with the team supporting and helping. This is a great way to provide effective treatment, and to have team members from near and far.

Clients find working with the team is very helpful because not only do they have one therapist, but they've got a whole team of therapists helping them. Who makes up the team will vary, although there will generally be one or two team leaders, who are experts in family therapy. The clients will meet the team, and the makeup of the team might include student therapists, as well as licensed experienced therapists.

There is a current opportunity to start working with the team via Zoom will be on Tuesdays from 5-7pm, starting on 10/1 or 10/8. The team will work with the family for 10 sessions (depending on the start date) and the cost of working with the team is $250 per session (although a sliding scale is available for those in financial need). The team will work with the family for ten weeks and then will connect them with therapists with openings to continue their treatment if needed. Unfortunately, there is only space for one family, but if you contact us, and we can not accommodate you at this time, we can put you on the waitlist for the next opportunity to work with the team and/or find you a clinician that can work with you now, either through the Family Institute of Berkeley, or in your community.
