Children
Is your child having difficulty? Behavior problems? Anxiety? School Difficulties? Big Changes? At the Family Institute of Berkeley we work with parents and children to figure out what is going on and how to help. Parents are the biggest resource for their children, and with a therapist's help, we can help your child open up what is going on inside through talking or play, and then help parents with the therapist's tools to be able to help their children get better and thrive!
Teens
When children become teenagers, they often vacillate between wanting independence, but still being dependent. We work with teenagers and families to figure out what is going on, and help support them in working through all sorts of difficulties like anxiety, depression, acting out, school problems, life problems, identify, difficulties with friends, and all sorts of other issues. The research shows that teens do want to be able to turn to their parents to talk about what's going on, so our therapists helps create that bridge so parents can be a resource to their teens
Adults
Whether a young adult, starting a family, juggling kids, taking care of aging parents, launching children, going through life transitions, or moving into our senior years, we continue to be connected to others. Our relationships with partners, kids, and parents can add to our difficulties, or provide a resource for support in making it through our difficulties. We work with families who are trying to reconnect, overcome difficulties, or just get closer to support each other through a difficult time in life.
Couples
Relationships are hard. Whether dating, getting married, juggling kids, growing old together, or struggling as an individual with difficulties, couples therapy can help to strengthen relationships, and address individual issues through growing a stronger relationship. We want to help couples to go from having problems, to not having problems, and onto thriving, having a relationship where each person feels fulfilled.
Families
Why go it alone? Whether you're a parent helping your kids, an adult needing support or working through distance, or a parent wanting to heal and strengthen your relationship with adult children, family therapy can help activate an important resource. Research shows that family work helps support change and prevents relapse. We can help you and your loved ones today!
